Come join your union brothers and sisters at the Union Family Gathering. It will be held all day Saturday, June 21, 2008, at Seven Oaks Park.
We have not had an event like this in more than 10 years but we plan to have more in the future. A committee was formed this month that consists of three members who will be organizing this picnic and other events like it.
We will be serving Pulled Pork Bar-B-Q all day. Some folks will be bringing their own musical instruments so if you play one, feel free to bring it and join in.
There is a playground for the kids, plenty of shade, a Frisbee golf course, and a pavilion with about 8 picnic tables but no electricity. If you plan to stay a while, you may want to bring lawn chairs.
We know that some of us own custom cars, trucks and motorcycles. We hope you will bring them and show them off. Also, we encourage you to bring a potluck item if you want.
We are asking members to contribute $5.00 per family to help pay for the bar-b-q. We did not plan far enough in advance to ask the Grand Lodge for funding permission but we will be working on that for the next event.
This is a bit of a dry-run. We will be taking notes and making plans for the next event, based on what we learn with this event so that hopefully we will be able to do a better job next time.
Please bring your families. This is a chance for us to get to know each other better. The Union is sometimes mistaken for a fee based service but it was never intended to be that way. The Union was started by real people who pulled together to make a difference in each other’s lives.
Being a union member means that you stand along side the people you work with on a daily bases. Come out and get to know the people that stand with you and learn what it means to be part of a union family.
